Our New Puppy

This is our new pet, Tess. She is a Bedlington Terrier/ Whippet cross and has a sister that also lives in Brandeston. She is 8 weeks old, likes singing loudly, but is settling in well. I am looking forward to being able to take her for walks. Mum is worried that she will chase rabbits and our chickens - hopefully we will train her before there are any fatalities!

If you have any training tips, funny stories or photos from your puppy experiences, I would love to hear from you!

Ebony

This is a Ebony, also known as Fluff and Elvis.  She is rather grumpy and doesn’t like being picked up initially but is OK once you have a firm hold of her. I think she actually likes being brushed although it is a hard job as she is so fluffy.  We let her play with the chickens the other day and she was herding them like a sheepdog herds sheep!!

Our Chickens

These are our chickens having a dirt bath under the apple tree – they are very funny as they keep trying to find ways of escaping!

Pet saves Pet

My name is Emilia Quinn and I’m nine years old. I was in my bedroom sleeping when I heard this high pitched squealing cry.

I went down stairs and opened the door.

There was my dog Midnight pointing her nose at the pond. I looked up and there was a green dog head sticking out of the top pond. Poppy had fallen in. I shouted for my mum and raced to get my beloved dog out. I hadn’t put any shoes on and it was cold. But I caught her by the collar and hoisted her out.

Then my mum arrived.

My Rabbits

This is a picture of my two former rabbits, Holly (brown) and Jasper (white with brown spots). Holly, sadly passed away after we had her for a couple of months or so. Jasper died late last November 2007, near his birthday. Jasper was quite lovely with Holly. When we first put them together they were fighting but when we left them alone for a night or two they began to have a very close bond indeed.  But when Holly died Jasper wasn’t quite the same as before. He had quite a bad temper that meant we couldn’t hold him as much (apart from my brother).

This picture is the funniest (hopefully)! When my dwarf-lop rabbit, Jasper, was ill, we had to feed him baby food. Now you would all think, “BABY FOOD! What sort of rabbit food is that?”

Well it is this: apparently, it helps loose up the stomach if it is blocked. At this point in time, Jasper wasn’t eating properly or going to the loo. When we were feeding him the baby food, he wouldn’t swallow so it wouldn’t go down and he produced fangs!  We were all terrified of this discovery. Think about it - how would you feel if your pet grew fangs?!

This picture is probably the cheekiest because Holly, my former rabbit, hid there every time we let her out into the garden, so we had to keep an eye on her to see where she was. When we weren’t expecting her to, she would just leap out and scare you but she hardly ever did that.  When we used to get her and Jasper in at night, she used to be so stubborn because she wouldn’t budge. Also, she had quite a bad temper so she would nip us which was very frustrating.
